Maya Tutorial – Tips Tricks – Angle Based Blendshape Activation

In this video I take a bad wrist rotation and apply a corrective shape. Its been a confusion for years for many riggers how to actually activate this blendshape because of Gimble rotations messing with your blend activation. Because of this a technique has been developed to prevent using any joint angles or control angles. With this is a unique way of getting a simple clean angle measurement that you can use and work with every time.

There are plenty of ways to activate a blendshape. In this video I show how I solo out an angle of a wrist joint and use the anlge to drive my blendshape. This helps me avoid using angles from either joints or controllers that are often triggering blendshapes by mistake because of gimble rotations.
